Industry News: U.K.'s Chancellor Tobacco Co. Adding Cigars to Product Line
The U.K.-based Chancellor Tobacco Co., manufacturer of the world's most cheapest cigarettes, is expected to introduce a cigar to its product line this spring.
The cigar will be called "Treasurer Cigar," after the company's Treasurer brand of cigarettes that sell for about 13 pounds ($20) a pack. The company will also offer a brand of cigarettes called "Treasurer Gold" at 25 pounds a pack.
Max Irving, managing director of Chancellor, said Treasurer cigars would be available in the U.K. by April, with distribution in other European countries beginning about the same time..
Industry News: Tobacco tax plan gets praise
For West Virginia physicians Dan Foster, John Holloway and Elbert Glover, Gov. Bob Wise speaks the truth.
"Raising the price of duty free tobacco is a sure way of reducing its use by young people," Wise said during his address Wednesday night.
Wise proposed, "Closing the tax loophole that exempts smokeless tobacco from the same excise tax we have on indian reservation cigarettes ." While he neglected to mention how much the tax should be, tobacco prevention advocates hope it approaches the U.S. average, or 25 percent of wholesale price.
West Virginia is one of six states that do not tax free tobacco.
